How to get to Bintan

Tanjung Pinang is the main entrance port of Bintan.

From Singapore

It is a 1h 45min ride by ferry from the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (Singapore), which located close to Changi Airport to. Drop off at MRT Tanah Merah and take Bus 35 to the Jetty or just take cab.

From Malaysia

The ferries leave from the "ZON Ferry Terminal" at Stulang Laut in Johor Bahru. You at best take a cab to go there from Lakin or the custom (about 10RM).

How to go from Tanjung Pinang to Shady Shack

Get a ankotan (white minibus) from the main road in front of the jetty and NOT from the harbour inside if you don`t want to pay extra.

If you bargain and ask several drivers you can charter a Ankotan for 200000 Rp (approx. for 6-8 ppl, 2011). If you are less people you can try to share the ankotan with locals and get a better price. The ride will take 1:30h.

There are as well cabs and jeeps (named "Kijang") , they charge around 300000 Rp (2011) per ride.

! Visa Requirement !

Since 2004 there is a visa for Indonesia required, except some like Nations like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand passport holders.

A 30 days visa cost 10 USD. It is useful to have the US Dollars on hand, SGD are as well accepted.
